A House Divided

When the Fur Dwarf steward reached the capital, three Fur Dwarf counties had declared independence over the issue of slavery. The southern counties wanted to maintain the right to expand slavery in Turtle Island, while the northern counties wished to halt it. The three detectives were sent to a small harbor fort off the coast of one of the three rebel counties with the task of resupplying the artillery unit there giving the Fur Dwarf Steward time to negotiate peace.

The detectives arrived at the port town to discover a massive army or rebel militia and artillery preparing to launch an assault against the fortress. Tillo took the time to play music with rebel bards while Shao located the closest artillery battery to the island. The party procurred a small row boat after convincing the rebels they were agents sent to assassinate the captain of the fort. At night, the detectives rowed to the island and made contact with the garrison captain an hour before the battle began. Rebel artillery began hammering the fortress with ballista, onager, and trebuchet fire as the detectives scrambled to survive the assault. Sauc attempted to incure the wrath of a sea goddess to hide the fort in a storm while Tillo and Shao set to work making use of the fort's artillery.

The detectives attempted to fight back, and at one point the fortress caught fire. The party managed to eliminate artillery at on battery, then rowed to shore to prepare for a counter-attack. When they reached the shore, they discovered celebratory rebel dwarves reporting the fort had surrendered. The rebels allowed the garrison safe passage off the island and back to friendly shores and the party met with the rebel leader- a devil general who had bought Tillo's soul in exchange for teaching him how to play the banjo. The devil transported the detectives to the western frontier as a prank.

Without orders for a new mission, the party returned to Tillo's previous charge and signed up for the Pony Express.
